Symptoms:

Dark red rash on the face and eyelids, around the nails, knuckles, elbows, knees, chest and back. Often causes muscle weakness.

Management:

Dr. Harlan first tells his dermatomyositis patients that there is no quick fix. He says his strategy is for long term maintenance of this condition. For the redness, Dr. Harlan instructs his dermatomyositis patients to:

For the face:

  • Apply SmartLotion® 2x per day for 2 weeks, then 1x per day for at least 2 more weeks.

For the body, Dr. Harlan tell his patients:

  • Apply SmartLotion® 2x per day for 4 weeks, then 2x per day for 4 weeks, then 1x per day for 4 weeks.

Afterwards, he would let them use SmartLotion® as needed going forward.
